Necromancer — the legion problem
The Necromancer is the class the store uses for its most evocative image: “raise a burning legion”. It is also the class with the biggest unanswered question in any ARPG — does the army actually work in a corridor?
What the official art shows
The lineup shows a Necromancer in bone-plate armour with a skull mask and a scythe. The silhouette is tall and narrow, with a weapon that reads as both tool and symbol. It is the most overtly dark-fantasy design of the six.
The likely game plan
A summoner usually wins by turning the action economy: more bodies means more damage and more distractions. The costs are minion AI, ramp time and boss scaling. In a randomised map, a minion army can also block doorways and hide enemy telegraphs. The store’s “burning legion” line suggests fire is one supported flavour; whether that is a support gem, an aura or a class mechanic is unknown.
- Clear: minions spread through a pack. Watch whether they aggro independently or follow your cursor.
- Single target: a focused summon, a curse or a damage-over-time stack. Bosses often ignore minions.
- Defence: bodies as a wall, life regeneration from deaths, or a bone armour skill.
- Bossing: can you keep the army alive through a phase, or does the fight reset your damage?
What to test first
- Do minions follow you through a door, or do they get stuck?
- Can you command a target, or is aggro automatic?
- How long does it take to raise the army at the start of a Rupture?
- Do minions die to ground effects, and can you resummon them in combat?
- Does the class have a personal damage skill for bosses that ignore minions?
The build shape to aim for
-
One minion engine
Pick one type and commit. A mixed army with no scaling is the classic summoner trap.
-
One delivery
A curse, a offering or a projectile that applies your damage type while the army tanks.
-
One defensive plan
Minions are not a guarantee. Keep life, a flask and a movement skill.
-
One boss answer
Assume the boss will ignore your army until proven otherwise. Keep a self-cast or a single-target minion.
Playtest report: the poison legion
The evidence supports a class with at least one spell, one physical attack and a minion build. It does not tell us the minion limit, the poison scaling or whether the golem is permanent. Those are the questions a summoner guide needs answered.
If you are in the playtest, the most useful screenshot you can send is the Deathcoil tooltip and the minion UI. That would turn three names into a real page.
What would change this page
A minion skill list, a gameplay clip with the Necromancer HUD, or a playtest build. Until then, “raise a burning legion” is a promise of a fantasy, not a build guide.
