Playtest status: the alpha, the reset and the weekend push
The playtest is the most important fact about Broken Oath right now, and it is not on the store page. It is in one Steam news post: a server rebuild, a full online reset, a fresh ladder, and a developer asking for builds past Rupture Level 150.
What is actually live
| Item | Status | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Playtest app | Steam app 5461470, separate from the store app | SteamDB |
| Access | Limited — request access through the store page | Steam / SteamDB |
| Live since | 30 October 2026, 08:59 UTC | SteamDB |
| Build state | Alpha; bugs, balance changes and wipes expected | Developer news post |
| Online servers | Down 5 November 19:00 UTC; reopened 6 November 18:00 UTC | Developer news post |
| Weekend goal | Push every class and as many builds as possible past Rupture Level 150 | Developer news post |
| Early Access | Still undated and unpriced | Steam store |
What the reset actually did
The developer’s 5 November post is the only detailed statement about playtest persistence. It is worth reading literally, because creator videos and Reddit posts often blur the line between online and offline.
- Online hero
- Reset to level 1 with a fresh ladder, stash and market.
- Top online heroes
- Moved into a Hall of Fame.
- Offline hero
- Lives on your PC and was not touched.
- Account, cosmetics, invites
- Kept.
- Market
- Mentioned as part of the reset; its exact nature is unexplained. Not yet confirmed
The weekend push
“I want to see every class and as many builds as possible past Rupture Level 150, and I will read every build and every report to get the balance right.”
This is a balance test, not a race. The same post says the ladder is “for fun” and that builds will keep changing. If you join for the weekend, the useful thing you can do is report what worked and what broke — not chase a rank that will be wiped.
Online or offline?
| Online | Offline | |
|---|---|---|
| Progress | Ladder character; reset on 6 November | Local character; unaffected by server work |
| Stash/market | Fresh shared systems | Local stash |
| Hall of Fame | Top ladder heroes | Not applicable |
| Best for | Testing balance, comparing builds, leaderboard play | Stable practice, learning the game, avoiding wipes |
| Risk | Resets and server downtime | Unknown long-term support |
How to get in
-
Open the Steam store page
Use the Request Access button under the playtest section. There is no public sign-up form and no paid access.
-
Wishlist the game
Steam is the notification path. It also tells the developer there is demand.
-
Watch the official Discord
The invite is linked from the store. Public announcements carry schedule changes and patch notes.
-
Ignore key sellers
Any site selling “Broken Oath beta keys” is a scam. The playtest is free and invite-based.
What to expect from an alpha
- Bugs, missing polish and unfinished areas.
- Balance changes mid-week; a build can be nerfed between sessions.
- Online resets. The 6 November reset is the clearest example.
- A moving Rupture level scale. Creators report tier renumbering; do not treat any tier number as permanent.
- No NDA has been published. Do not assume you can share everything, and do not assume you cannot; check the playtest terms.
